Obama vs “Tea Party”

Posted by Sahata On July - 11 - 2010 ADD COMMENTS

I don’t know what to think about this Tea Party movement. The most rabid will tell you it’s about fiscal conservatism, about the government spending us all into the poor house for decades to come. Hey, that part might actually be true. But if that’s the main concern, you’d think the movement would have found traction a couple of years ago, instead of immediately following the election of a Democratic president.

No sane person could accuse Barack Obama of putting the nation in the situation it’s in, but that’s what they’re doing. Of course, they’re not crazy. They know a couple of ruinous wars, and a round or two of gratuitous tax cuts, and the virtual absence of bank regulations aren’t Obama’s fault. They know that nobody’s taxes have gone up this year, and that nobody but soldiers have sacrificed for our wars. I suspect it’s not really about fiscal conservatism; I suspect the Tea Party movement is mostly just cynical gamesmanship, funded by entrenched interests and abetted by those too dumb to know better. It’s about denying a president any claim to success, and, God willing, humiliating him mightily in the process.

They call this a grass-roots movement. I wonder. It’s a movement that’s able to pay Sarah Palin 100 grand to bewilder her listeners for 45 minutes — most of whom, for all their fiscal conservatism, will have ponied up $349 for the privilege. If that’s grass roots, those roots are very well-fertilized.

But let’s be realistic about this. Obama, unless he murders someone in a drunken rage, is probably going to be president until 2016. Any movement that is devoted to denying him any claim to solving any of the nation’s problems for the next six years — well, that movement is anti-American. And it will leave us all worse off. The red-state, blue-state model is obsolete in my opinion. What do you think?

I can not ensure you that your date on Friday night wont be a disappointment but one thing for certain I can guarantee is the Toledo Show at Harvelle’s on Sunday night is never a disappointment. Every time I’m  there I meet people from all over the world, celebrities as well as local Santamonicans ! From the live performance to the break where they play top 40, you will be sure to have a good time. Last night I met some people from New Zealand , this goes to show you how everyone wants a little piece of Santa Monica! The drinks are moderate and not watered down and there is no actual age group that goes. When I’m there I see people from 21 to 61. Harvelle’s has definitely made the 2010 hot list of places to be in Santa Monica . They have live music seven days a week how could you be disappointed in that? Besides what better to do on a Sunday night then watch beautiful women strut their stuff! Harvelle’s is a great balance to end your weekend with a laid back atmosphere and live music. I hope to see you there!

One of my favorite things to do if I’m alone or with a group of friends is to stop by Pourtal and put $25 on a wine card and go wine tasting . Pourtal is a little chic and vibrant wine bar located on Santa Monica Blvd and Ocean Ave. You have a broad selection of wines from international , local and organic. The name Pourtal speaks for its self, you do exactly that! Just grab a glass and walk around the bar and select different wines you would like to taste. I love it! Girls just want to have fun and Guys just want to pick up beautiful women! As you can see its a win,win situation:) The most happening nights are Thursday-Saturday and also check out their website for special events…… Sahata Says

Party NYC Style in Santa Monica

Posted by Sahata On May - 2 - 2010 ADD COMMENTS

Who would of thunk it? There is a place you can party like a rock-star NYC style roof-top in Santa Monica! One day on a sunny Sunday while waiting for my medi and pedi I decided to grab something to snack on next door. I actually ordered from the sushi bar downstairs and I asked where can I find the bathroom, that’s when I found a great discovery.

While walking to the bathroom I saw that there was a door that lead to outside, Hmmmm being the inquisitive person I am I decided to take a peak. Wow, it was breathtaking! This was an outside area with leather couches,DJ, heater lamps not to mention its on the freakin rooftop! I had a flash-back of my NYC party days immediately. It was like you were in a new city within a city inside a restaurant. (if that makes any sense?) The area was blocked in by these red brick buildings that had fire escapes and rugged windows, it looked like buildings you would see in NYC. This was the main characteristic that added  the east coast vibe to this place. Besides it did not take away from the ambiance of the restaurant/lounge it still maintained that upscale chic feel.

I asked the bartender when is a good night to come?, he said Saturday’s get pretty busy. (Anyone who knows me I am not a person who takes someone’s word I usually check it out myself.) So I came back that following Saturday. The bartender was right! It was very busy, very happening, flooded with beautiful people, good music and lets just say they know how to pour a drink! :) This was “The Place” to be on a Saturday night. So far. :)

If your looking for a laid back place to go on a Saturday night head for Wokcano ! I will tell you about the food another time!”……….Sahata Says

Chic and Meek!

Posted by Sahata On April - 8 - 2010 1 COMMENT

Last night I was taking a stroll threw my neighborhood and decided to stop by Chloe . Chloe is very sophisticated neighborhood lounge . It has a very elegant ambiance ,you could go there to meet a business associate or a bed mate, and either would be a success:) While sitting at the bar I mingled with locals and talked about everything from politics to celebrity gossip. I truly felt I was getting the best of both worlds, Hollywood glitz and glam but meeting  down to earth people that I could have a “real” conversation with. I felt like I was in the 2010 version of  Cheers.(lol)

The bartender just so happened to be a mixoligist by the name of Josh. He was quit the charming type:) I sat down and said; “give me something good.” and he said; ” I have the perfect drink for you.” He made me this drink called the French 75 it was awesome! It was a mix of fresh lemon ,Champagne, simple syrup and Hendricks gin. This drink had chic written all over it. They should make this one of there signature drinks! After some women next to me heard me raving about how great this drink was to the bartender, they ordered one. Next thing I knew I had started a trend! Every woman I saw around me had a French 75 and a smile on their face to go along with it:) I felt my job was done here!

After I mingled for a few, I said my goodbyes and exchanged email addresses with the locals, They asked,”Where are you going next week?” (he,he) I had a blast tonight it could not have been more perfect. The energy was vibrant and I have a new favorite drink! Well, for the time being that is:)…………………..Sahata Says

Powerless vs Empowerment

Posted by Sahata On March - 25 - 2010 25 COMMENTS

Something happen to me  this week that I am not yet ready to talk about, but it was definitely an eye opener! Sometimes things happen in our life that compel us to ask questions. Questions like, “why me?” or “I cant believe this happened.” We then, start to fall into a poor me phase that makes us subconsciously think of ourselves as the victim, and we start to act as such. As a result, we start to attract experiences where we are a victim. If we catch ourselves when we feel we have become victimized and see ourselves as the non-judgemental observer instead of the victim, we can benefit and learn from the experience. It can be a learning experience. You can choose to live your life embracing your journey or counting your losses. Every loss or gain is an experience that you can learn from and be beneficial if you choose to take the lesson. Being a victim is saying you have no power and therefor powerless. Being an non-judgemental observer is self empowerment saying I am taking  from this experience what I can gain no matter good or bad. So next time  something happen in your life and you see yourself falling into the “poor me” box , Ask yourself do I want to be powerless or empowered?

Goodbye Date, Hello Mushu

Posted by Sahata On March - 9 - 2010 1 COMMENT

What a night! After yoga, some friends and I went to Musha, a great Japanese restaurant on Wilshire Blvd. Its a very low key spot but has a vibrant energy. And the food is amazing – authentic Japanese cuisine unlike any franchise you’ve ever been to.

I was introduced to Musha about eight months ago while on a date. Well, I kept the place but not the date! But thanks for the introduction. You know who you are. (wink, wink) As I was saying, this is my favorite Japenese restaurant. Some of my favorites are the Sakekasu Salmon, Spicy Tuna Dip and the Yellow Tail Collar (Cuma) – with this one they only get two in a day. Well, make that one because they save one for me! If you are a meat eater be prepared for a very unique experience as your steaks come uncooked with all the seasoning you need to cook on a cute little charcoal grill to your liking. If you’re looking for the sushi bar, there is a great selection to choose from and its not just a menu bar. These sushi chefs are creative, so whatever you palate is craving I’m sure my guys can whip up something you will enjoy!  They have a full bar with an assortment of sake, wines, beer and martinis.

This is a great place to take a date if you want great food and energy and a down to earth feel. Musha is your place. I guarantee that the food and the place will ensure you’ll have a good time with your date. What you do after that I have no control over. (ha ha) But at least now you have a cool place to go to when you want good food and great people. The busiest days are Thursday  – Saturday as you may need a reservation to secure your spot. I usually just sit at the bar. It gets pretty entertaining. Ask for Toku and tell him Sahata sent you. Oh, and tell him  you want the “Sahata Sauce ” Its a special sauce made for me that I like to add to my food and its…. Mmmmmm GOOD!

Is LA Really “La La Land”?

Posted by Sahata On March - 8 - 2010 ADD COMMENTS

LA to many people is the land of dreams. Others refer to it as ” la la land .” The latter meaning that people in Los Angeles are stuck in this laid back, nothing but time attitude or frame of mind. The people who live here have so many great ideas but never seem to execute their plan and achieve their goals. Every beautiful woman is a model or an actress…or gold digger. And the men seem to follow the same pattern! Is everybody comfortable living a lie?

Pursuing your dreams takes work. Many do come to LA and work hard and become very successful, but many others have this attitude that all they need is faith and little work, or no work at all and everything will be handed to them. Success means different things to different people. To some, it may mean exotic cars, beautiful women and shopping sprees. To others, it may mean something completely different. But for most living in this city, success is measured in monetary gains.

Whatever your definition of success is, it is defined by you. And whatever you choose is completely okay. In New York City, people are known to be aggressive. When New Yorkers come to LA, the LA people tend to feel they are too aggressive. I don’t think they are aggressive. I think they are assertive and have a “go get it” attitude rather than waiting around as the grass grows under their feet. They don’t wait for someone to hand  something to them.

In a place where the weather is always nice, the people are beautiful and the flash and cash is king, I can see where its easy for some people to get lost in translation here. So do I think of LA as “la la land?” To some, it is the land of opportunity and growth. But others don’t want to admit  that they’re living in an illusion based on their own lack of motivation. These people will come to realize after years of doing the same thing and living the same lie and having the same “meetings” with no progress that they were living an illusion of Hollywood fame and fortune. Being busy is not the same as being productive. Maybe LA has earned its title and needs to own it. What do you think?
