Is LA Really “La La Land”?

Posted by Sahata On March - 8 - 2010

LA to many people is the land of dreams. Others refer to it as ” la la land .” The latter meaning that people in Los Angeles are stuck in this laid back, nothing but time attitude or frame of mind. The people who live here have so many great ideas but never seem to execute their plan and achieve their goals. Every beautiful woman is a model or an actress…or gold digger. And the men seem to follow the same pattern! Is everybody comfortable living a lie?

Pursuing your dreams takes work. Many do come to LA and work hard and become very successful, but many others have this attitude that all they need is faith and little work, or no work at all and everything will be handed to them. Success means different things to different people. To some, it may mean exotic cars, beautiful women and shopping sprees. To others, it may mean something completely different. But for most living in this city, success is measured in monetary gains.

Whatever your definition of success is, it is defined by you. And whatever you choose is completely okay. In New York City, people are known to be aggressive. When New Yorkers come to LA, the LA people tend to feel they are too aggressive. I don’t think they are aggressive. I think they are assertive and have a “go get it” attitude rather than waiting around as the grass grows under their feet. They don’t wait for someone to hand  something to them.

In a place where the weather is always nice, the people are beautiful and the flash and cash is king, I can see where its easy for some people to get lost in translation here. So do I think of LA as “la la land?” To some, it is the land of opportunity and growth. But others don’t want to admit  that they’re living in an illusion based on their own lack of motivation. These people will come to realize after years of doing the same thing and living the same lie and having the same “meetings” with no progress that they were living an illusion of Hollywood fame and fortune. Being busy is not the same as being productive. Maybe LA has earned its title and needs to own it. What do you think?
